Her legacy told

So I’m doing something that scares me but I think it’s necessary. I’ll go out on a limb and say that there are other women, like me, who love to celebrate other women- and you’re one of them. There is enough back-biting, back-stabbing, back-breaking...and all the other backs out there, but in this space- THIS SPACE- we, as women, have each other’s backs. I’m creating a unique and majestic space where we can all learn from each other and maybe even form bonds and collaborate to build each other up and by extension-society. You see, my vision for women is that we work together, provide encouragement for and challenge each other to be the best version of themselves; forming a sisterhood that is free from jealousy, hate, resentment, etc.; where true appreciation for the other female(s) in the room exists and is widely celebrated.

This blog, entitled ‘Her Legacy’, is intended to highlight the stories of females by painting the vividest of pictures of greatness, perseverance, grit, gracefulness, independence, disappointment...because the stories of women come just like them- in all shades, shapes and sizes. Each of us may indeed come from different backgrounds, but one common thread is the fact that our stories were influenced by our womanhood. Taking a moment to tell our stories may allow for another powerful female to live in her truth and authenticity. On the flip side, listening to the story of another can open up so many doors. By being open to stepping out of the show-that is the life of (insert your name here) you can gain perspective and enrich your life in unimaginable ways.

I’ll start this blog with my story, in Wednesday's post, and thereafter the story of another extraordinary woman will be told. Let’s start sharing our stories and let’s listen to the wisdom of other phenomenal females. There is magic that is female and this is a space that will explore it. So, if you would like to be featured in this blog let me know. I believe that everyone has a story and yours is worth telling. In closing, I’ll leave you with these closing words from a phenomenal woman- Maya Angelou.

Many people wonder where my secret lies.

I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size

But when I start to tell them,

They think I’m telling lies.

I say,

It’s in the reach of my arms,

The span of my hips,

The stride of my step,

The curl of my lips.

I’m a woman

Phenomenally.

I walk into a room

Just as cool as you please,

And to a man,

The fellows stand or

Fall down on their knees.

Then they swarm around me,

A hive of honey bees.

I say,

It’s the fire in my eyes,

The flash of my teeth,

The swing in my waist,

The joy in my feet.

I’m a woman

Phenomenally.

Men themselves have wondered

What they see in me.

They try so much

But they can’t touch

My inner mystery.

When I try to show them,

They say they still can’t see.

I say,

It’s in the arch of my back,

The sun of my smile,

The ride of my breasts,

The grace of my style.

I’m a woman

Phenomenally.

Now you understand

Just why my head’s not bowed.

I don’t shout or jump about

Or have to talk real loud.

When you see me passing,

It ought to make you proud.

I say,

It’s in the click of my heels,

The bend of my hair,

the palms of my hand,

The need for my care.

’Cause I’m a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That’s me."
